Char-ac-ter; the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing. Funny looking little men, women, crazy looking creatures, animals and objects stimulate our imagination and make the world a little more exciting, or make you buy stuff you accually don’t need. You can make an anvil crush a little old grandma and make it look funny, or put all the misery of the world in a little sad rabbit in a cage, or design the most sexy chick in the world, or make a mouse sail a boat and play music.
Designing characters gives you the freedom to do anything to anybody or anything anywhere, and it doesn’t have to be credible, you just have to make it to make it happen. Unfortunately these days the accual drawing mostly happens at the beginning of a character production, if it happens at all, and at the end you get a vectorial, CMYK, copy-pasted, unpersonal product ready for mass production.
Every design magazine or website is full of illustrator or flash designed characters and designer toys get stuffed down your throat. Most of the time it looks great but in most cases you barely see the hand of the artist.
